Featured Questions

Can I start a net metering application on behalf of my customer?

No, however, you may invite your customer to initiate the net metering application and provide you access to it. You can generate an email from FPL's net metering contractor portal to your customer requesting for them to start the application process. Once your customer provides you access, you may complete the application process.

What if my customer adds or removes solar panels?

If you make any modifications or additions to the renewable generation facility, you must complete another net metering application indicating the equipment changes 30 days prior to making the modifications.

If my customer sells their home with the installed solar system, does the next homeowner or business need to complete an interconnection agreement?

Yes, the new homeowner or business will need to complete a net metering application. Detailed system information won't be needed if there have been no changes to the system.

Will contractors receive email notification on the status of the net metering application?

Yes, only when the customer provides you access to their net metering application. Contractors will receive email notification on the status of the customer's net metering application, including the permission to operate email.

Pre-approval

What does the pre-approval mean?

Prior to installation, the customer and/or contractor with application access can obtain pre-approval of the proposed system size. In most cases the system will immediately provide the pre-approval status based on the system specifications entered.

Why should I get the pre-approval?

The implementation of the renewable system might require an upgrade to FPL's equipment or it may be oversized in comparison to the customer's annual energy consumption.

When should I get the pre-approval?

As soon as the proposed system size and equipment have been determined prior to installation.

How long is the pre-approval valid for?

The pre-approval is valid for 365 days.

Payment, Review & Meter Installation

For tier 2 and 3 systems, who receives the invoice for the application fee?

The invoice for the application fee will be emailed to the customer once the interconnection agreement is signed.

Can payments be mailed in to FPL?

Yes, please send payment via check payable to Florida Power and Light Company to the address indicated on the invoice. Be sure to include a copy of the invoice with the payment and write the invoice number on the check.

How long is the application review process?

Typically 1 - 2 business days for applications in the "submitted" status.  Applications requiring payment will not be reviewed until payment is received.

Will my customer need a new meter installed to participate in net metering?

FPL will verify the type of meter currently installed at your customer's location. If they have a bidirectional smart meter, a new meter will not be required. If they do not have a bidirectional smart meter, the meter at the home will be exchanged for a meter compatible with the net metering program.
